Additional Information

Belgium's customs regulations align with EU standards (VAT 21%). If shipping to Belgium, note that Brussels/Antwerp is a major hub. Belgium uses the unified EU customs system. For low-value goods (under €150), no duty for now, but 21% VAT applies above €45 for non-gifts. If duty is owed, Belgium has relatively low de minimis for certain categories (and excise duties for alcohol/tobacco).

Ensure the address includes any building/unit numbers and the postal code is correct (Belgian postal codes are four digits). Most parcels to Belgium arrive in ~5 business days after they clear EU customs and are released to the local courier. Use English-only addressing (Latin characters) on labels; avoid local-language formats.

Unique restrictions: Belgium has very strict rules on diamonds, gemstones, and jewelry. All rough diamonds or uncut gems must be cleared through the Diamond Office in Antwerp – you cannot simply send diamonds by courier. Even finished jewelry containing precious metals or stones is heavily controlled; Belgian individuals are generally not allowed to receive precious jewelry by mail without going through formal procedures. It's best to avoid sending high-value jewelry or gemstones to Belgium.

Other prohibited items: Belgium explicitly bans some items that other countries might overlook: for example, radar detectors for cars are illegal to import, and certain agricultural products (like specific plants, eggs, or raw fish) are forbidden. Of course, standard bans (weapons, drugs, explosives, counterfeit goods) apply as well. If you plan to send food items, avoid anything of animal origin; Belgian customs will reject homemade sausages, cheeses, etc.

Belgium is an EU member state. For complete EU shipping guidelines, prohibited items, and packaging requirements, view our EU Shipping Guide .

We do not ship alcohol, tobacco, prescription medicines, cannabis, or similar restricted goods. Belgium also enforces strict controls on diamonds/jewelry and other prohibited items—ask us before shipping sensitive categories.

Delivery & Pickup in Belgium (GLS)

How GLS handles Belgian deliveries, redirects, and identification for collection.

Home delivery window

  • GLS delivers Monday to Friday during normal business hours; domestic parcels typically arrive within ~24 hours (timing can vary by route).
  • If you are not home, GLS first tries a neighbour who can accept and sign. If no neighbour can accept, GLS leaves a notification card and takes the parcel to the nearest GLS depot.

Pickup, redirect, and safe-place options

  • After the first delivery attempt you can redirect to a GLS ParcelShop for pickup. Typical hold time: nine working days; bring a valid ID/passport.
  • Another person can collect with a simple written authorization (or the form on the notification card) plus their valid ID/passport.
  • Safe-place delivery is available via signature release authorisation so GLS can leave the parcel at an agreed spot (e.g., garage/patio). You can revoke it by sending a signed letter to your GLS depot.

Need help with tracking or delivery?

Your Polimark tracking number works from Canada all the way through final delivery. In most cases, this is the only tracking number you'll ever need.

How local delivery tracking works (rarely needed)

Once your parcel reaches Belgium and is handed to GLS (the local final-mile carrier), a local courier tracking ID may be generated. This local ID is automatically linked to your Polimark tracking behind the scenes.

  • Most customers never need to use this local tracking ID.
  • Polimark remains your primary point of contact for tracking updates and delivery questions.

When would I need the local tracking ID?

Only in uncommon situations, for example:

  • A recipient wants to manually change a delivery date
  • A pickup point selection needs to be adjusted directly with the local carrier

If that ever happens, just contact us and we'll provide the local tracking ID for you.
