Shipping to Finland

Important customs and shipping information

VAT & Duties (EU)

VAT Rate: 25.5%

Gift Threshold: Up to €45 (private-to-private gifts)

Duty-Free Threshold: Up to €150 ⚠️ EU duty-free threshold changes to €0 on July 1, 2026

Additional Information

Finland (EU, VAT 25.5%) has tight customs controls, especially on gifts and alcohol. The Finnish Customs (Tulli) clearly states: Gifts over €45 will incur VAT, and over €150 duty.

Finland is quite strict about food and agricultural imports – meat, dairy, and potatoes are a no-go. Even candy or homemade foods can be problematic if they contain animal products.

Prohibitions: Standard EU prohibitions apply. Additionally, Finland bans import of endangered species products (CITES) like ivory, certain furs, etc., which is common across EU but worth noting given Finland's interest in wildlife protection. Don't send hunting trophies without permits. Alcohol/tobacco gifts to Finland have very low allowances (only small quantities and still subject to excise).

Customs processing: Finland implemented the ICS2 security filing, expect to provide detailed item info in advance (which we handle).

Delivery: It's normal in Finland for parcels to be left at a collection point (like a kiosk) if the recipient is not home; they get a text or slip. So include the recipient's mobile number for those notifications. Finnish addresses often include apartment numbers; double-check the format (Finnish uses a format like "Street Name 12 A 4", where 12 is building, A is stairwell, 4 is apartment).

Finland is an EU member state. For complete EU shipping guidelines, prohibited items, and packaging requirements, view our EU Shipping Guide .

We do not ship alcohol, tobacco, prescription medicines, cannabis, or similar restricted goods. Mainland delivery only; island deliveries are not available.

Delivery & Pickup in Finland (GLS)

Most parcels for private recipients go to Matkahuolto pick-up points or parcel lockers. Mainland delivery only; island deliveries are not available.

What is unique in Finland

  • Pickup-first for consumers: parcels usually go to a Matkahuolto pick-up point or parcel locker (not door delivery).
  • Pickup notifications via SMS, email, Matkahuolto app, or letter; includes pickup-point address and opening hours.
  • Collection code required: you always need the pickup code from the notification to collect.
  • Finland Parcel Number appears once the parcel enters Finland; it can be used to find pickup details in Matkahuolto tracking.
  • Unclaimed return window: GLS Finland terms note unclaimed consignments are returned after 10 days of holding.
  • FlexDelivery (when available) lets you change delivery via emailed link; changes must be made before processing at GLS' terminal in Turku.
  • Mainland delivery only; island deliveries are not available.

Need help with tracking or delivery?

Your Polimark tracking number works from Canada all the way through final delivery. In most cases, this is the only tracking number you'll ever need.

How local delivery tracking works (rarely needed)

Once your parcel reaches Finland and is handed to GLS Finland (the local final-mile carrier), a local courier tracking ID may be generated. This local ID is automatically linked to your Polimark tracking behind the scenes.

  • Most customers never need to use this local tracking ID.
  • Polimark remains your primary point of contact for tracking updates and delivery questions.

When would I need the local tracking ID?

Only in uncommon situations, for example:

  • A recipient wants to manually change a delivery date
  • A pickup point selection needs to be adjusted directly with the local carrier

If that ever happens, just contact us and we'll provide the local tracking ID for you.
