Additional Information

France (EU, VAT 20%) is a major destination with clear rules but also a very extensive list of controlled imports.

Prohibited/controlled items: France bans a variety of items, including some not obvious: cultural products like certain books or films that incite hate are banned, as are doping substances (e.g. certain performance enhancers). Electronics that transmit radio (walkie-talkies, drones) might need conformity checks. Food items: France is famous for its cuisine, but importing food is tricky. Cheese, meats, or homemade foods cannot be mailed in from outside the EU. These will be seized due to strict agricultural controls. Even certain plant products or seeds are barred without phytosanitary certificates. Interestingly, France lists "playing cards" as restricted (this is a historical tax thing – it may not apply to one deck for personal use, but it's on their list). Luxury goods: If you send high-value luxury items (e.g. designer handbags), be prepared for strict scrutiny to ensure they're authentic and correctly valued – France is serious about combating counterfeits.

Duties and taxes: Standard EU thresholds. France enforces import VAT on all non-gift shipments; couriers will collect from the recipient before or upon delivery (often a notice is mailed or a text with a link to pay).

Delivery: Provide the door code or building entry code in the address if there is one (common in Paris apartments). Delivery in urban France ~5 days, rural or Corsica may be a couple days extra. If the recipient misses a delivery, they usually can pick up at a local collection point with ID.

France is an EU member state. For complete EU shipping guidelines, prohibited items, and packaging requirements, view our EU Shipping Guide .

We do not ship alcohol, tobacco, prescription medicines, cannabis, or similar restricted goods. Mainland delivery only; island deliveries are not available.

Delivery & Pickup in France (GLS)

Home delivery plus pickup-point delivery ("Relais GLS" and lockers). Mainland delivery only; island deliveries are not available.

Home delivery window

  • GLS delivers parcels in France Monday to Friday during business hours (local route/time windows vary).
  • If the recipient is not available, delivery may fall back to a neighbour (signature required) or a re-attempt / depot handling depending on the shipment options.

Pickup, hold times, and redelivery options

  • If the sender enabled FlexDeliveryService, the recipient can choose alternatives like delivery to a GLS Parcel Shop or safe place delivery (where available).
  • Parcel Shop / pickup-point hold time (France): 5 days at Mondial Relay pickup points; 8 days at other partner pickup networks (Pickme, lockers, Relais Colis). After that, the parcel is returned.
  • If home delivery fails and no alternative is confirmed, GLS can hold the parcel at the depot; after two unsuccessful attempts it may be returned after a 10-working-day holding period (during which depot pickup is possible).
  • Security-code support: if no code arrives by SMS/email, use the tracking email link or contact recipient support.

Need help with tracking or delivery?

Your Polimark tracking number works from Canada all the way through final delivery. In most cases, this is the only tracking number you'll ever need.

How local delivery tracking works (rarely needed)

Once your parcel reaches France and is handed to GLS France (the local final-mile carrier), a local courier tracking ID may be generated. This local ID is automatically linked to your Polimark tracking behind the scenes.

  • Most customers never need to use this local tracking ID.
  • Polimark remains your primary point of contact for tracking updates and delivery questions.

When would I need the local tracking ID?

Only in uncommon situations, for example:

  • A recipient wants to manually change a delivery date
  • A pickup point selection needs to be adjusted directly with the local carrier

If that ever happens, just contact us and we'll provide the local tracking ID for you.
