VAT & Duties (EU)

VAT Rate: 21%

Gift Threshold: Up to €45 (private-to-private gifts)

Duty-Free Threshold: Up to €150 ⚠️ EU duty-free threshold changes to €0 on July 1, 2026

Additional Information

The Netherlands (EU, VAT 21%) is a major entry point for European imports (Amsterdam/Rotterdam gateways).

Prohibited items: Standard EU bans apply. Additionally, the Netherlands has a tolerant image for some things (e.g. cannabis), but importing drugs or cannabis is absolutely illegal – do not send any marijuana, even if someone thinks it's "legal" there; it's not for import. They also enforce rules against importing counterfeit goods strictly (Schiphol customs is known for intercepting fake goods).

Duty & VAT: EU rules. The Netherlands has already implemented the EU's end of the €22 VAT exemption (so everything gets VAT) and will implement the €150 duty change in 2026 like others.

Delivery: The Dutch postal system is highly automated; providing a correct postal code (four digits + two letters, e.g. 1013AB) is crucial. It pinpoints the street. If the postal code is off, the parcel could misroute. The Netherlands also offers many pickup points, if the recipient isn't home, they might pick up at a local shop. They will get a notice in Dutch usually.

Netherlands is an EU member state. For complete EU shipping guidelines, prohibited items, and packaging requirements, view our EU Shipping Guide .

We do not ship alcohol, tobacco, prescription medicines, cannabis, or similar restricted goods.

Delivery & Pickup in Netherlands (GLS)

GLS Netherlands offers ParcelShop and locker delivery with distinct hold times.

Home delivery window

  • GLS delivers Monday to Friday during business hours (route dependent).
  • If the recipient is not home, GLS may try a neighbour first.

Not-home message & redirect options

  • If delivery to a neighbour isn't possible, GLS leaves a Not-Home-Message (and/or sends email if available) so the recipient can choose delivery options (e.g., schedule a second attempt, deliver to Parcel Shop / parcel locker).
  • Pickup hold times (Netherlands): Parcel Shop 5 working days; automated parcel locker 3 calendar days.
  • If no alternative option is chosen, return timing can depend on origin: parcels originating from the Netherlands may be returned within 5 working days; parcels coming from abroad may be held for up to 10 working days before return.

Need help with tracking or delivery?

Your Polimark tracking number works from Canada all the way through final delivery. In most cases, this is the only tracking number you'll ever need.

How local delivery tracking works (rarely needed)

Once your parcel reaches Netherlands and is handed to GLS Netherlands (the local final-mile carrier), a local courier tracking ID may be generated. This local ID is automatically linked to your Polimark tracking behind the scenes.

  • Most customers never need to use this local tracking ID.
  • Polimark remains your primary point of contact for tracking updates and delivery questions.

When would I need the local tracking ID?

Only in uncommon situations, for example:

  • A recipient wants to manually change a delivery date
  • A pickup point selection needs to be adjusted directly with the local carrier

If that ever happens, just contact us and we'll provide the local tracking ID for you.
