Important customs and shipping information

VAT & Duties (EU)

VAT Rate: 25%

Gift Threshold: Up to €45 (private-to-private gifts)

Duty-Free Threshold: Up to €150 ⚠️ EU duty-free threshold changes to €0 on July 1, 2026

Additional Information

Sweden (EU, VAT 25%) has high VAT.

Prohibited items: Standard EU bans. Sweden also bans some items like electroshock weapons or certain knives, similar to other Nordics. Alcohol has state monopoly rules, so importing alcohol by mail is practically not allowed without going through the state monopoly.

Duty/VAT: EU rules (25% VAT on imports).

Customs handling: Sweden was one of the first to implement strict handling of low-value imports after the EU's 2021 VAT changes – all parcels get assessed. The postal service (PostNord) charges a presentation fee for processing imports (around SEK 75 for low-value), which the recipient must pay along with VAT. This applies unless using a courier that pre-clears (we try to use services that minimize extra fees).

Delivery: Provide the recipient's personalnummer (Swedish ID number) if available. Sometimes couriers ask for it to simplify customs (not mandatory for gifts, but for purchases it helps if provided). Addresses in Sweden are usually simple: street, number, postcode, city. But ensure any c/o or apartment numbers are included (e.g. "Lgh 1202" for apartment).

Sweden is an EU member state. For complete EU shipping guidelines, prohibited items, and packaging requirements, view our EU Shipping Guide .

We do not ship alcohol, tobacco, prescription medicines, cannabis, or similar restricted goods.

Delivery & Pickup in Sweden (GLS via DB Schenker)

GLS in Sweden operates through DB Schenker (Schenker AB), with a large Parcel Shop and parcel box network.

Delivery pattern

  • In Sweden, GLS parcels are handled by the GLS partner Schenker AB (DB Schenker).

Pickup window

  • If the shipment is delivered to a pickup point/agent: it is typically kept for 14 days before being returned (per the partner's pickup-point rules).

Need help with tracking or delivery?

Your Polimark tracking number works from Canada all the way through final delivery. In most cases, this is the only tracking number you'll ever need.

How local delivery tracking works (rarely needed)

Once your parcel reaches Sweden and is handed to GLS (for Sweden) (the local final-mile carrier), a local courier tracking ID may be generated. This local ID is automatically linked to your Polimark tracking behind the scenes.

  • Most customers never need to use this local tracking ID.
  • Polimark remains your primary point of contact for tracking updates and delivery questions.

When would I need the local tracking ID?

Only in uncommon situations, for example:

  • A recipient wants to manually change a delivery date
  • A pickup point selection needs to be adjusted directly with the local carrier

If that ever happens, just contact us and we'll provide the local tracking ID for you.
